As expected, temperatures have warmed significantly over the western and southern US, especially over northern Texas and New Mexico where they are close to 30°F warmer. This has eased freeze concerns over Texas and the southern Plains as far as wellhead freeze and production issues. Warming will expand across these regions with a return to near normal temperatures. The big warm up over the Midwest in the image is just a tease. A new weather system is about to move through and is proving a brief period of warmer southerly winds ahead of a reinforcing shot of cold and light snow. Cold air has made it to the south, but it will moderate over the next few days. The really cold air in southwestern Canada will continue to impact the Midwest and Northeast over the next week.
